READING BOOKS
'to
awaken a thirst for nourishment of the spirit..'
- Philip Yancey
The difficulty
with a society governed by a love affair with pop culture is
the problem of historical amnesia: we don't know who we are because
we don't know where we've come from.
The discipline
of reading widely brings light to our times of confusion and
darkness. As C.S. Lewis says, 'We read to know we are not alone'.
The Bible
and the centuries-long corpus of written material issuing forth
from it serve to set the Christian faith in the most prolific
body of literature ever created. A tradition we ignore at our
folly.
