not FAST)

Temperature control
Upper suite:
- Heated primarily by a forced air
furnace- thermostat in hall beside bathroom.
- Wood-fired stove - a small fire makes a big difference. Err on
the side of SMALL! Matches in kitchen drawer,
firewood & paper starter in utility closet; additional firewood
on 'back' deck.
- Window shades & curtains help control solar
gain.
- Ceiling fan helps with air circulation.
Lower suite:
- Heated primarily by in-floor,
hot water heating - thermostat beside
bathroom door.
- Additional heat is provided by the forced air furnace
- thermostat upstairs.
- Vents
in ceiling of lower suite can be turned in or out by hand to
increase or restrict air flow.
If you are too cold or too warm downstairs
& need the upper thermostat changed for your comfort, please
speak to us.
Farm Etiquette
- Gates
that are open, leave open; gates that are closed, leave closed.
- The farm cats & dogs
do not go inside the chalet. They may try, but please don't
allow this. We have one dog: Mona, a black
& white border collie. We generally keep
her tethered if we are not home. Mona isn't allowed to go
out the lane to the county road. She is welcome to keep you company
on your walks through the fields, woods & around the farm.
If she bothers you on your around-the-yard activities (such as
during a campfire/ wiener roast/ picnic), or if she follows you
down the lane, please clip her onto either the tether at our
house, or onto the lead line in the park.
- If you go for a walk (or run) down the
road to the north and our neighbor's dog insists
on following you back, bring her home and we will deal with her.
- Our property line runs
along the hill above the chalet. The buildings "up top"
belong to our neighbors. They generally don't like sight-seers.
We will try not to disturb your stay. However,
at times, necessary and unavoidable farm activity
or yard work means you may hear tractors, chain saws and other
engines starting up, lambs and ewes bleating back and forth,
or vehicle access to the lower suite may be blocked off by temporary
fencing. We apologize for inconvenience, and hope you will relate
to these disturbances simply as part of the farm-stay experience.
Chalet Etiquette
- Keys
are available for the exterior doors.
- Smoking
is permitted outside only.
- SAFETY - The lower suite is accessible to people with disabilities.
Both suites are equipped with smoke alarms & fire extinguishers.
First aid kits are in the bathrooms.
- From time to time we may need access
to the back workroom through the lower suite. Don't worry
- we will knock!
- Separating garbage - there are garbage cans outside the chalet for
regular garbage. There is a composter down at the garden. Set
returnables aside and we will recycle!
- If it rains or is too cold to enjoy the
outdoors, we have the following available on request:
TV, VCR & DVD player, selection of puzzles & games,
toys for children, outerwear such as raincoats & rubber boots.
There is also an extensive library in the farm house and many
books, videos & DVD's to choose from.
- Before you leave,
check drawers & closets for your belongings. Hidden
Springs is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles.
- Report any problems with the suite or shortages of supplies to us at any time during
your stay. We will try to set things right as soon as possible.
- Please do your own dishes.
- SIGN THE GUEST BOOK! We treasure the encouragement we receive
from reading your comments after you leave. If you have enjoyed
your stay, tell others! Take along some cards and brochures,
and share the word.
- FEEL FREE TO WATER THE MARIGOLDS! Guests are also welcome to enjoy produce
from the garden.
